Life Safety

Tyco’s Life Safety initiatives improve the safety and well being of our most vulnerable communities and citizens. Tyco’s Security Solutions and Fire Protection businesses are highly engaged in developing partnerships with organizations that address issues such as fire and burn prevention, home and family safety, and domestic violence.

Tyco’s Life Safety partners include the Home Safety Council, American Red Cross, National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, the Burn Foundation and the Phoenix Society.

Key Programs:

Humanitarian Relief
Through corporate support and employee contributions Tyco has been part of disaster relief efforts around the world. Our support of the American Red Cross and the International Red Cross, which play key roles whenever and wherever disasters strike, provides immediate assistance to affected communities. We also identify effective, local organizations already at work at the disaster site, for funding from Tyco and its individual businesses. Tyco employees have consistently provided generous support to humanitarian relief efforts around the globe through Tyco’s Matching Gifts program.

Making homes safer for young children
Tyco is a key sponsor of Start Safe -- a national program to educate pre-school-aged children and their caregivers about fire and burn safety. Fires and burns are a big problem in America for pre-school-aged children. Each year, thousands are injured or killed from accidents in the home that could be prevented. Start Safe was developed by the Home Safety Council who, with Tyco’s support, launched the program at a dozen pilot sites in the U.S. involving local Head Start programs and fire services. The curriculum has since been distributed to thousands of child care centers and fire departments.

Burn Prevention
Tyco’s partnerships with the Phoenix Society and the Burn Foundation provide assistance to burn victims and their families, while seeking to reduce the prevalence of burns. The Phoenix Society provides resources to support and connect not only burn survivors, but spouses, children, siblings, healthcare professionals, first responders and others who are involved in the recovery process. Tyco assists the Burn Foundation to provide burn prevention education to under-served populations, with an emphasis on children and the elderly – those most at risk of becoming victims.

Support for First Responders
With the Tyco’s support families of first responders who have lost their lives in the line of duty receive grief therapy, healing and wellness programs. Through the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation’s annual Survivors conference and Memorial weekend these families become part of support networks that help to heal their loss. Survivors also participate in programs to educate the public and policy makers about practical yet critical measures that can help ensure the safety of our families and the first responders who serve to protect us.
